Argaenu

Veneering

Argaenau yw dalenni tenau o bren a roddir ar arwyneb pren o ansawdd isel (e.e. bwrdd sglodion, MDF) i wneud iddo edrych fel petai o ansawdd uchel. Defnyddir argaenau tewach hefyd i greu byrddau wedi’u gweithgynhyrchu megis pren haenog a blocfwrdd.

Defnyddir argaenau gyda’r rhain:

  • Cypyrddau cegin a gynhyrchir gyda MDF a bwrdd sglodion
  • Drysau a dodrefn
  • Gorffeniad addurnol ar arwyneb gan ddefnyddio cyfuniad o wahanol argaenau

Cyngor: Rhaid i’r arwyneb y rhoddir yr argaen arno fod yn wastad ac yn llyfn, oherwydd ychydig o lyfnu neu orffennu sy’n bosibl oherwydd yr argaen tenau.

Manteision Anfanteision
Rhoi arwyneb addurnol i fyrddau wedi’u gweithgynhyrchu Bydd dalenni argaen yn difrodi’n hawdd os na chânt eu cadw’n gywir
Gall motifau addurnol wella ymddangosiad arwynebau pren Ychydig iawn o waith siapio a gorffen sy’n bosib unwaith y rhoddir yr argaen ar yr arwyneb

Veneers are thin sheets of wood applied to the surface of a low quality wood (e.g. chipboard, MDF) to give it a high quality appearance. Thicker veneers are also used for creating manufactured boards such as plywood and blockboard.

Veneers are used within the following:

  • Kitchen units produced in MDF and chipboard
  • Doors and furniture
  • Decorative surface finish using a combination of different veneers.

Tip: The surface onto which the veneer is applied to must be flat and smooth, as very little sanding or finishing is possible due to the thin veneer.

Advantages Disadvantages
Gives manufactured boards a decorative surface Veneer sheets will damage easily if not kept properly
Decorative motifs can enhance the appearance of wood surfaces Very little shaping and finishing is possible once the veneer is applied
